Adams County Colorado Looking for Accountant II – 164999 at Brighton, Colorado Full Time

We are seeking an experienced candidate with governmental accounting experience to perform accounting duties in the finance department.

• Perform monthly journal entries, reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, and month-end closing process.
• Compile and analyze financial data.
• Determine adequacy, analyze, and improve accounting processes and systems.
• Review accounts receivable and accounts payable voucher batches for accuracy.
• Complete monthly general ledger review and analysis.
• Contribute to the year-end general ledger closing process, preparation for the County’s annual audit, and preparation of the County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
• Maintain certain grant-related records to assist County departments and prepare the annual schedule of expenditures of federal awards.
• Provide support to accounting department staff and grant analysts.
• Maintain capital assets in the related system module.
• Learn, interpret, and implement generally accepted accounting standards (GAAP) and any new governmental accounting standards board statements (GASB).
• Manage and complete assigned accounting-related projects.
• Run reports for department(s) on a monthly basis.
• Perform annual inventory count at the County’s golf course and fleet buildings.
• Coordinate and conduct annual physical asset review at County buildings.
• Serve as a contact for County departments for any accounting-related questions.
• Perform other accounting and related duties and responsibilities as required.
• Attend accounting and grant related training throughout the year.

Knowledge of:

• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Basic Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statements.
• Essential parts of Title 2 U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
• Automated financial systems.
• Experience in preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

Skill to:

• Prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analysis.
• Maintain automated financial systems.
• Oracle/JD Edwards financial systems (preferred).
• Prepare the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
• Manage accounting projects and complete them on a timely basis.
• Research complex financial and accounting transactions.
• Use a computer including Microsoft Office products and accounting systems.

Ability to:

• Learn, research, and apply accounting principles to a variety of complex accounting transactions.
• Learn, research, and apply federal, state, and local laws and regulations to the County’s processes.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports, including the County’s CAFR.
• Communicate professionally; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
• Establish, maintain, and foster professional, positive, and harmonious working relationships with elected officials, peers, third-party vendors and entities, customers, citizens of the County, and all those contacted within the course of work.
• Work outside of scheduled hours during busy periods, such as year-end closing / CAFR preparation periods.

• Experience: Two (2) to Five (5) years of governmental accounting experience is a requirement.
• 
  Education and Training: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from an accredited college or university is preferred. An Associate’s Degree may substitute for 2 years of the required experience. A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute for 4 years of the required experience.
