Essential Duties
1. Ensures implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures developed by institutional process leaders, including transformation of planning and financial management practices.
2. Manages team resources that monitor and plan long-term and annual budgeting, forecasting and financial management activities.
3. Develops and maintains knowledge of University finance and budgeting processes and applicable federal, state and university policies and procedures, and the activities of a designated portfolio to ensure effective budget control and financial management.
4. Reviews and recommends budget and financial management processes in order to achieve simplicity, speed and quality for finance department.
5. Interprets accounting policies, procedures, and processes and reports to finance department management on findings. 6.
Ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations, contractual requirements and University policy. 7. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance and five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus :
Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance of the Yale Cancer Center, this position will manage a team of Financial Analyst(s) and Accountant(s) and a Financial Assistant who mainly focus on oversight of sponsored research and other non-sponsored funding for the sections of Medical Oncology, Hematology, Neuro Oncology and Palliative Care.
This position will oversee and provide expert analytical and financial guidance and consultation on how to optimize the array of research portfolios and mitigate risk of non-compliance for all awards assigned to their team.
This position will ensure monthly and quarterly financial review and assist in preparation of annual departmental budget.
This position will be responsible for collaborating with other business administrators, directors, University officials, and research and administrative staff over a wide variety of issues supporting the research administrative and operational needs of the department.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :
Thorough working knowledge of the administration of sponsored research; experience with Workday and YBT applications and reporting tools, Knowledge of Yale University business, accounting and financial policies and procedures;
extensive knowledge of university accounting and financial systems.

Required Skill / Ability 1 :
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate policy and procedure to staff and faculty in a way that encourages compliance.

Well-developed managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-resolution and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to manage people on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment and performance.
