The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking an Accountant II (Grade 8) or Senior Accountant (Grade 9) to join the Finance Accounting team.

Compensation:
Grade 8: $35.91 to 39.50/hr.
Grade 9: $83,900 to $92,290
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
General Summary (Grade 8):
Under the direction of the manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, post accounting entries, interface daily transaction files and identify and resolve differences in cash and other financial account balances.
General Summary (Grade 9):
Under the direction of the manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, analyze general ledger data, identify and resolve differences in general ledger accounts. Responsible for posting, interfacing, and monitoring general ledger activity to ensure accurate analysis and reporting of financial account balances.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Accountant II (Grade 8)
Prepare and post general ledger interface entries from the source data and other systems imported into the general ledger system. Enter standard general journal entries with supporting documentation, as requested by the manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting.
Analyze and reconcile benefit, withdrawal disbursement and pension income accounts, using the pension datasets. Prepare reconciliations and report results on a monthly and roll-forward basis of multiple non-investment income and disbursements accounts.
Prepare daily and monthly analysis of cash accounts, identify and resolve discrepancies in the cash and subsidiary systems. Identify outstanding items and prepare adjusting entries for review by the manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting.
Post cash receipts to the general ledger system confirming appropriate general ledger account. Maintain documentation of miscellaneous cash receipts.
Assist in the monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting process.
Prepare income statements and supporting spreadsheets for general ledger accounts, taxes, and departmental operations.
Maintain organization-wide capital assets in the asset management system, including acquisitions, dispositions, and depreciation. Perform periodic fixed assets review to verify that interfaces and account balances are proper. Annually, conduct the physical inventory. Issue reports of findings to management.
Assist with preparations of annual external audit of State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio’s) financial position. Respond to auditor inquiries or requests for information.
Senior Accountant (Grade 9)
Prepare, post and review general ledger interface entries from the source data and other systems imported into the general ledger system. Enter standard general journal entries with supporting documentation.
Analyze data interfaces between source data and general ledger daily to ensure accuracy of transactions. Using the pension datasets, analyze and reconcile benefit and withdrawal disbursement accounts, as well as pension income accounts. Prepare reconciliations and report results on a monthly and roll-forward basis of multiple non-investment income and disbursement accounts. Work with the technology and finance staff, develop and refine the reconciliation process.
Prepare daily and monthly analysis of cash accounts. Identify and resolve discrepancies in the cash and subsidiary systems. Review outstanding items and post adjusting entries. Communicate with other finance associates to resolve the proper allocation of cash activity.
Determine appropriate general ledger account and post cash receipts to the general ledger system. Maintain documentation and proper internal controls of miscellaneous cash receipts.
Assist in the monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting process.
Prepare income statements, reconciliations, and supporting spreadsheets for general ledger accounts, taxes, and departmental operations.
Maintain organization-wide capital assets in the asset management system, including acquisitions, dispositions, and depreciation. Perform periodic fixed assets review to verify that interfaces and account balances are proper. Reconcile asset management activity to the general ledger on a monthly basis. Annually, conduct the physical inventory. Issue reports of findings to management.
Provide supporting schedules for the annual external audit of State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio’s) financial position. Provide technical support to the management for the implementation of new accounting standards. Respond to auditor inquiries or requests for information.
Serve as a functional advisor or subject matter expert on general ledger and asset management systems. Collaborate with consultants and peer pension system accountants on general ledger and asset management system functionality.

Summary of Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
Three to five years relevant experience required. (Grade 8)
Five to seven years’ relevant experience required. (Grade 9)
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. (Grade 9)
Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
Proficiency with spreadsheet applications and large data sets required.
High level of quantitative, analytical and mathematical skills required.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft and Workday general ledger, pension, and reporting systems preferred. Proven ability to transition to new software platforms preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and high degree of accuracy in performing detailed assignments and attention to detail required.
