Director of Accounting – Biotech
The Director of Accounting will serve as the accounting lead for various areas: preclinical, research, CMC, and regulatory activities. The individual needs to have strong operational experience in a biotech or pharma company with month-end close process including accounts payable, accruals and budget/forecasting operations. This position can be scoped at the Associate Director or Senior Manager level as well depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
· Liaise with multiple groups in R&D, Clinical business operations, CROs, and vendors regarding: tracking of all R&D contracts, the overall progress of projects to budget, and status of completion of work at the period end
· Collaborate with R&D operations, Clinical business operations and contracts team for contracts and work orders for amendment of existing contracts and new contracts for planned projects
· Own the accounting close for all R&D activities
· Generate and manage all R&D accruals models and perform monthly journal entries related to all R&D accruals
· Propose automated solutions to R&D accrual accounting for future consideration
· Manage at least one direct report, the Clinical Finance Manager
· Responsible for review of clinical accruals prepared by the Clinical Finance Manager
· Support budget, forecasting and R&D long range planning process
· Proactively examine R&D-purchase orders to assess percentage completion or timing of delivery of goods or services
· Review monthly account reconciliations and assist with forecasting detailed R&D roll forwards
· Prepare reports and presentations to management on the status of each accrual area
· Own desktop procedures and required steps under SOX for each month-end close; understanding of how R&D accrual process impacts overall SOX risk.
Background Profile:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
· CPA / CMA / MAcc / MSA / MA / MBA a plus
· Ideally 10+ years of strong Clinical Accounting / R&D Accounting experience
· Biotech / Pharma industry experience required
· Previous public accounting audit / assurance and technical accounting experience a plus
· Experience with SOX
Compensation: the compensation will be generous and includes a base salary, annual bonus and RSUs.
