Overview
Based in the California Sierra Nevada foothills, the mission of Woolman, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, is to both inspire and prepare individuals to work for peace, justice, and environmental sustainability, and to deepen their personal and spiritual growth. Continuing its six-decade legacy as a hub for Quaker values, Woolman offers diverse educational and enrichment programs and retreat facilities at the 245-acre Sierra Friends Center campus. It is maintained as a unique environment where guests can study, practice, reflect and renew as they are immersed in nature, with simple accommodations, meeting spaces, and a working farm that provides fresh organic food.
The property includes a large open space of mixed oak and conifer forest, 40 acres of irrigated pastures, organic farm, orchard and lawn, and an inner 30-acre developed area. The developed campus includes
40 buildings, including residences, shared meeting spaces,operations facilities, roads, and parking lots. It is supported by an onsite potable, fire-fighting, and irrigation water system, as well as a wastewater treatment facility. The campus was originally built in the 1960s as a residential boarding school and is undergoing adaptive reuse.
Scope of Position
Site Manager serves as part of a dynamic management team guided by a Board of Directors assisted by various Board committees. The Site Manager reports to the Executive Director and supervises two staff.
The scope of position is to manage all aspects of the operations of the property, facilities, and infrastructure.
The campus is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and as such, it is required staff on a rotating basis, be available on call after normal business hours to respond to needs of guests, manage emergencies or support special events. This is a full time salaried position. Housing provided as part of the compensation is negotiable.
Although Woolman was founded and is guided by Quaker principles, it is not a religious institution and there is no requirement for staff to be Quaker. However, it is expected that staff will support the
Woolman mission and values.
Responsibilities
The Site Manager will conduct maintenance and repair work and will organize and oversee work undertaken by staff and contractors.
Site Management: Evaluating site needs, developing repair and maintenance schedules, complying with regulations, completing repair and maintenance, overseeing contractors, and maintaining records for:
Budgeting: Developing quarterly and annual budgets and tracking and reporting on expenditures and work completed pursuant to budgets and work plans.
Planning: Participation on planning teams for strategic and specific plans needed to support long term program and operations needs.
Project Management: Overseeing all contractual work related to repairs and site improvements, including the execution of procurement processes to ensure best value for cost, to include developing job descriptions and scopes of work, contractor selection and engagement, and supervision of contracted work.

Woolman offers a competitive salary and benefits package. This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is
$54,000 – $64,000, depending on experience. Includes healthcare, PTO, and a retirement match.
